Terry Liskevych describes six-person pepper as “a great example of a player-oriented drill.”
It’s cooperative, and it emphasizes ball control.
The format is simple: Six players on one side of the net. A player in either right front or left front enters the ball by hitting to the middle back. The middle back passes to the middle front, who sets in the direction she’s facing. The player receiving the set hits to another player, who digs the ball up. Play continues until the ball hits the floor.
The object of the drill is to get as many in a row as possible.
“This is a great warmup,” Liskevych says. “You can do it on two sides with 12 players, and (the coach) doesn’t have to enter balls. You get digs, passes, sets and hits, and that’s what’s going to happen in the game of volleyball.”
